Tuesday Tales – #TT1 – Nasty

Tuesday Tales

Welcome to Tuesday Tales!!

“I asked at the cafe.” Buck shoved his hands in his coat pockets. “I tried the special, but citrus-choco-edamame is not for me. I’ll stick with ice cream and chocolate syrup.”

Marilyn laughed. “I didn’t know they had that flavor.”

“Oh, they don’t. It’s at the fast food place across town.” Buck dropped into the seat beside the bed.

Marilyn sipped her smoothie. “That’s probably not on your list of approved foods.”

“Thank goodness, I don’t have that list yet.”

“I’m sure it’s still in my bag. We could go over it now.”

“I don’t think you should work yet. It’s barely been twenty-four hours since your surgery.”

Marilyn supposed that was true. No one had given her leave to get out of bed yet. Working, even on light stuff was likely a no-no. “That doesn’t mean you are getting out of it. Did you exercise yesterday?”

“Uh.” Buck swallowed. “I’ll make sure I get it in today.”

“I’ll expect to see it in your log.” Marilyn took another swig of her smoothie. “What else do you have on your schedule for today?”

“I thought I’d sit at your bedside all day.” Buck grinned.

Though the thought warmed her heart, she knew it wasn’t true.

“Penny’s got me and Ken cleaning up the Turkey Stop campground for winter.”

“What do you have to do out there?”

“Winterizing the pipes and electrical outlets. Now that she has Ken to help, I can get out of bathroom duties. Cleaning out all the nooks and crannies in the men’s room is nasty.” Buck wrinkled his nose.

The sun glittered off the fall foliage outside her window. “It will be a nice day to be outside. If I could, I would take a walk down by the river. There won’t be many more days like this before winter comes.”

“Indeed.” Buck started to stand. “Have you heard from Lark?”

“Not since yesterday.” Marilyn glanced at her phone. “I’ll try calling her again later today.”

Buck nodded. “That’ll be good.”

The way he said it made her nervous. “Do you think something’s wrong?”

Buck’s gaze skittered across the floor. “She seemed upset when she left yesterday.”

Marilyn blinked. “You said she heard I tried calling a few times.”

  1. I hope her call with Lark goes well. I like the easy conversation…even the way she’s checking up on him thought she’s not supposed to be working. 🙂

  2. I see a nice easy friendship developuing here. It’ll balance what may be a more complicated one with Lark. Neat name by the way.
