Tuesday Tales – #TT1 – Twenty

Tuesday Tales

Welcome to Tuesday Tales!!

Last week we left Penny from In for a Pound shivering in the woods. She probably shouldn’t stay out there for too long.

About twenty paces ahead, Ken saw a swatch of color. “Penny?”

The figure moved, and he was sure it was her. She was sitting on a bench dangerously affected by rot. Her shoulders sagged, but the weight that slid off his shoulders couldn’t be matched.

He broke into a run and skidded to a stop in front of her, taking only a second to shuck his coat and drape it over her shivering body. Her lips and skin had developed a blue sheen.

“I’m so glad I found you.” He rubbed her arms, feeling the tense chill through the fabric of his coat.

“How’d you know I was here?” Penny’s teeth clicked together as she spoke.

“Harold.”

She wrinkled her brow.

“Why’d you let him leave you here? You could have died from exposure.”

“That’s a little ridiculous.” But she slipped her arms into the sleeves of his jacket and hugged the wool to her chest.

A cool front was moving in and the temperature dropped as the wind kicked up. It may not be the biting cold they had grown accustomed to last winter, but it was dangerous nonetheless.

“How were you planning to get home?” Ken asked, urging her to her feet.

“I’d call someone when I was ready to go.”

Ken huffed. “With your phone and purse in Harold’s car?”

She slapped her hip pockets and gasped. “I guess it will take more than a couple hours for the vitamins to kick in.”

Her foot caught on a root, but Ken caught her before she tumbled into the dirt. The cold had already stiffened her muscles. He squeezed his arm through hers, propelling her forward. “What vitamins?

  4. Another cliffhanger? I need to know about the vitamins and I don’t want to wait another week. She’s obviously been affected by the cold. Good thing Ken got there in time.
